If Zion walks you down to the beach during your stay, you’ve already met a fairly important member of the Flow team. The house he calls home began with two shipping containers and a patch of clay and swampy ground, long before it had a garden for guests to settle into.
That willingness to see what something could become is part of Jordy’s story. It took him from teaching surf as a teenager to building a place where lessons, coaching, stays and Costa Rica adventures could connect.
You might come for one surf lesson, spend a week working on your surfing, or bring your family back every year. You can also ask us to help put the whole trip together. Wherever you’re starting, we want to get to know you and help make the experience yours.
Teaching at 13, building a surf school at 16
Jordy began teaching surfing at 13 and turned 30 in October 2026. Helping people learn in the ocean has been part of his life for more than half of it.
At 16, he started Tico Surf School, and later co-founded Sunset Surf with a business partner. Together, they grew a well-loved school in Dominical focused on beginner and intermediate surf lessons.
We appreciate that chapter of Flow’s story because those early lessons still matter to us. Helping someone catch a first wave or feel more confident the next time they paddle out remains a big part of what we enjoy.
As Sunset Surf grew, Jordy began thinking about what else he wanted to create. He wanted more room for individual coaching and training, more ways to help guests plan their time in Costa Rica, and a place of his own where he could welcome them for a stay.
A new direction with Flow
Flow Surf gave him a place to bring those ideas together.
The focus expanded into coaching: getting to know a surfer’s goals, understanding where they feel stuck, and spending time on the practice that makes sense for them. Individual training became part of that vision, alongside help coordinating the rest of the trip.
One-off lessons have kept their place as Flow has grown, welcoming travelers who have never touched a surfboard, couples trying something new, and people who simply want a good afternoon in the water.
We enjoy the excitement of a first wave as much as helping a returning surfer develop their next skill. A relaxed holiday lesson and a focused coaching week can both be worthwhile experiences when we understand what the person in front of us is hoping for.
Zion’s House began with two shipping containers
When Jordy decided to build a place for guests to stay, he designed Zion’s House in Dominicalito and built it with his brother.
They built the house with two shipping containers and locally sourced wood, while the surrounding yard was still clay and swampy ground. The garden guests know today took shape as Jordy designed, planted, and cared for the space.
Hosting gave Jordy another way to connect with guests beyond the few hours of a surf lesson. Staying at the house gave people time to make their own routines, walk to the beach, explore the area, and feel a little more at home.
And then there is Zion
If you have stayed at Zion’s House, there is a good chance the dog is part of your story.
Zion lives on the property and spends time with guests during their stays. He has been known to walk with them to the beach and keep watch beside their things while they surf.
It is easy to understand why people remember him. He is part of the welcome, and part of what makes the house feel like more than a place to sleep.
Some guests arrive knowing about Zion before they have met Jordy. We are perfectly happy to share the attention.
Surf, stay, and explore with us
Over time, guests began asking for help choosing somewhere to stay, getting here, and finding things to do between surf sessions. Groups wanted to know whether we could connect those pieces into a trip that worked for everyone.
Jordy has planned and coordinated trips for solo travelers, couples, families, and groups coming from around the world. Some want a loose plan and a few local recommendations. Others want the transport, stay, surfing, and adventures connected before they arrive.
Flow now includes:
- Beginner and intermediate surf lessons for people trying surfing or building confidence.
- Personalized coaching and training for surfers who want to work on specific skills.
- Stays and help choosing a home base that fits the trip.
- Adventure coordination, local experiences, and concierge planning.
- General property management and short-term rental management for homes ranging from comfortable, thoughtfully finished properties to high-end villas.
Where you stay, when you surf and what you do between sessions all affect the week. We help connect those pieces so you can enjoy the trip you came for.
Why we love this lifestyle
We love surfing for the time in the ocean, the challenge of learning, and the feeling of a ride that comes together. We love adventure for the chance to see somewhere differently and spend a day doing something we will remember.
We also love the parts that do not need a big plan: a walk to the beach, a conversation after a lesson, or enough time at the house to enjoy the garden.
Sharing that with guests is a big part of why Flow exists. We want people to have room to try, learn, ask questions, and enjoy being here. The experience should fit their pace as well as their goals.
Families who come back become part of the story
Some families return to Costa Rica every year to surf with Jordy and the other local coaches he works with. The kids come back, the parents paddle out too, and the relationship carries on beyond one holiday.
Those returning relationships mean a lot to us. Guests are trusting us with time they have looked forward to, often for months, and we want to keep earning that trust each time they come back.
It is also why teaching and coaching stay at the center of Flow. We enjoy getting to know how someone learns, seeing what they are ready to work on, and sharing the moments when something starts to make sense.
The welcome does not depend on your budget
A traveler arriving by private helicopter and looking for a villa and a chartered offshore fishing day may need a very different plan from a backpacker who saved for years to come to Costa Rica and learn to surf.
Both deserve the same warmth, attention and respect. Jordy and the team meet people with a Pura Vida smile, a handshake and time to hear what they’re hoping for. Your budget helps us choose the right plan; it doesn’t change the welcome.
Part of the community, with more ahead
Flow has sponsored local soccer teams, surf competitions, and events. We are part of the place we invite people to visit, and we want the brand to grow with that connection intact.
Jordy sees a future where Flow has something for every traveler and every surfer. That is a direction we’re building toward, with the same care for the individual that brought us here.
Our philosophy gives that vision a few words to come back to:
Find your wave. Live Pura Vida. Open your mind. Write your story.
If you’re coming to Costa Rica, tell us what you’re hoping for, whether that is a first lesson, a week of coaching, a place to stay, or an adventure you have been thinking about for years.
We would love to help you make it happen.
Meet Jordy, explore surf lessons and coaching, find your stay or plan a local adventure with us.
